Thermal oil expands by up to 20% as it heats. The expansion vessel compensates for this volume change, ensuring the drum is always completely filled with oil \u2014 from cold start through to full operating temperature and throughout the entire production run. This guarantees zero air pockets in the drum, which means no cold spots, no temperature variation over the width, and no color output differences from left to right or over time.
